Utility Cuts Power to TN Family Over Smart Meter
One of our TN chapter families is in need of our help.Their electric utility company, Meriweather Lewis Electric Cooperative (MLEC), has turned off their electricity because they refused to have a smart meter installed on their property due to adverse health issues experienced with electromagnetic field (EMF) exposure by several family members. Christy and Judson Keen and their seven (7) children have been without electricity since July 8th. Other utilities in the state allow customers to opt-out of smart meters, and many states have opt out laws in place as well. There is no valid reason for MLEC to refuse the Keen’s to opt-out.
The Keen’s are showing remarkable courage, standing up for their rights and their health. Their fight is important to all of us who cherish freedom of choice and informed consent, especially with health matters. Let’s show them we admire their bravery and give them our support.
The Keens are currently using gas-powered generators that allow them to operate their household appliances (freezers, etc) and farm equipment at two (2) hour increments, three (3) times a day. They need help with the gasoline expenditures. To lower their costs moving forward, they would like to purchase a tri-fuel generator that can run on natural gas, which is less expensive than gasoline or propane. A new generator costs approximately $1500.
Also, the Keens need a device called a “sine tamer” to condition the electricity coming to their home, as the fluctuations inherent in generator power are burning up their appliances. They’ve lost one freezer. Another freezer is making horrible sounds from the motor, as is their only ceiling fan. Who can afford to replace all their appliances? The device they need to clean up their electricity, a sine tamer cost $1800
If you’d like to help out, donations can be made through a Give Send Go campaign.
Also, we need your help educating members of our General Assembly on the health and data privacy issues surrounding smart meters. Last session, Senator Joey Hensley and Representative Jody Barrett sponsored an Opt-Out option to Smart Meters bill that didn’t get a lot of traction. Please contact your legislators about the need for Opt-Out Smart Meter legislation. Smart Meter Facts which can be used for talking points can be found on our EMF page.
Together, we can make a difference with prayer, a monetary contribution and/or our time spent communicating with our legislators.
